![]() The kinds of calculations done at the design stage of a superconducting MRI magnet are outlined. The magnet is an unshielded system where some design details are available from the public literature.
![]() This example describes finite element analysis (FEA) calculations on a superconducting magnet built at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) in Florida, USA. The FEA problem was solved using the CalculiX FEA package. Results of the analysis are outlined. CalculiX .inp (input deck) files are available for download. An interested user can therefore run the problem as an exercise if they have available a working installation of CalculiX.
![]() In classic papers published during the 1950s and 1960s, M.W.Garrett described routines for calculating magnetic fields and forces in axisymmetric solenoid systems. This page considers the convergence of the elliptic integral solver he used, at various places inside and outside magnet coils.
![]() Stirling's formula is used for estimating factorials of large integers. A simple Fortran-77 program is described that compares the estimates from the formula with accurate results up to n = 50. A source code listing is included, together with a shell script to compile the code. |
